Muharram is the first month of the Islamic New Year. We also know from the Holy Qur’an that Muharram is one of the four sacred months and the meaning of Muharram means forbidden as warfare was forbidden during those months.

Muslims are encouraged to engage in increased worship during this blessed month and the rewards for our good deeds are multiplied.

The Day of Ashura is observed on the 10th of Muharram. It is one of the most virtuous days of the Islamic year. Many Muslims fast on that day only or fast 3 days which are the 9th, 10th and 11th .

It commemorates when Prophet Musa (AS) and the Children of Israeel were freed from bondage and when the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) in the Battle of Karbala took place.

Make abundant dua for yourself, your community and the ummah. Jazak Allah!
